The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bethlehem Governorate, in partnership with the National Framework for Supporting and Developing MSMEs "Monshati" and the Legal Clinic at An-Najah University, held a meeting on the legal regulation of employment contracts and employers' responsibilities towards workers. The meeting was attended by Dr. Sameer Hazboun, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and board members Mr. Adel Al-Hudhali, Mr. Jamal Handal, Ms. Soha Judah, Director of the Membership and Services Department and project coordinator, and Mr. Salah Abu Katteh from the Membership and Services Department, along with several members of the general assembly.
Dr. Hazboun opened the meeting by welcoming the attendees and commending the efforts of the management of the National Framework for Supporting Enterprises (Monshati). He emphasized the importance of this meeting, which clarifies the responsibilities and duties of contracting parties, safeguards their rights and contributes to the implementation of the Palestinian Labor Law No. (7) of 2000.
Dr. Naeem Salama, the legal advisor to the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture, and a law professor at An-Najah University, presented a summary of the importance of the legal regulation of employment contracts, their types, durations, and reasons that prompt employers to terminate these contracts. The discussion also covered workers' rights, end-of-service benefits, working conditions, leaves, etc. In addition, he addressed the importance of implementing occupational health and safety regulations in all enterprises, stressing the necessity of taking all personal protection and preventive measures for workers against occupational hazards. He also highlighted that having instructions and a list of penalties certified by the Ministry of Labor and occupational safety and health supervisors is crucial.
The meeting included numerous questions, inquiries, and contributions from company owners, reflecting their awareness and interest in the topic. It was agreed to follow up and hold further meetings on this matter.
